High-Speed Oval Track

The High-Speed Oval is one of the most advanced and high-speed-focused modules at the ZalaZONE proving ground. This facility is specifically designed for vehicle dynamics testing at high speeds, as well as for long-duration durability evaluations. Its geometry allows vehicles to maintain speeds of up to 181 km/h in a stable manner, without experiencing lateral acceleration forces. However, in certain cases, speeds of up to 270 km/h are also possible.

Track Structure and Design

The total length of the oval track is 4,450 meters, consisting of four main structural elements:

  • Two straight sections (each 950 meters long)

  • Two circular curves (radius: 338.75 meters, length: 1.275 meters each)

  • Four transition curves (each 343 meters long, designed with Bloss geometry for smooth transitions)

Cross-Sectional Details

  • Number of lanes: 4

  • Lane width: 3.75 m

  • Total paved width: 16.0 m

  • Total crown width: 22.5 m

  • Safety zones: 0.25 m (inner), 0.75 m (outer)

The main track surface is paved with asphalt, while the shoulders are either grass or driveable asphalt. The latter supports operational use by passenger cars and light commercial vehicles during testing and maintenance.

Speed Profile

The track is designed to accommodate gradual speed increases across different sections.

The neutral speed range is between 21 km/h and 181 km/h, ensuring stable and safe driving with no lateral acceleration acting on the vehicle.

The track also supports higher speeds, with a maximum constant speed of up to 270 km/h possible, and even higher speeds can be reached on longer straight sections, depending on the vehicle’s capabilities.

Geometric and Elevation Features

  • Maximum longitudinal gradient (incline/decline): 1.0%

  • Cross slope: 1% on straight sections, parabolic crossfall on curves

The elevation and slope parameters meet international standards, including UN ECE R79, ISO 15037-1, and others. As a result, the High-Speed Oval provides an ideal environment for vehicle dynamics testing, steering system evaluations, and speedometer calibration.
